Coca-Cola de Argentina and unsigned British ska band 7 Seconds of Love reach arrangement
Coca-Cola de Argentina and the unsigned London-based ska band 7 Seconds of Love today announce a joint agreement regarding similarities between a recent Coca-Cola light commercial and the video and soundtrack of one of the band's most popular online tracks, Ninja.
The band has a worldwide following, particularly via cult website Rathergood.com, which is authored by the band's lead singer, Joel Veitch, and receives 100,000 page impressions a day.
The agreement involves a payment to the band, which will be channelled towards both their ongoing development and to two charities which they are already actively involved in supporting and have personal commitments to.
The money will go towards:
- Recording and distribution of an EP, including the track Ninja
- Tommy's, the baby's charity
- SANDS, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society.
The band will now be managed by Peter Jenner of Sincere Management, who has 40 years experience managing the likes of Pink Floyd, T Rex, The Clash and Billy Bragg.
The Ninja EP, which will be released shortly, is produced by Ska legend Gaz Mayall.
In a statement, a Coca Cola spokesperson says: "The Coca-Cola Company has a long history of working with some of the best artists around the world. The creative talent of 7 Seconds of Love is quite evident and we wish them all the best in their musical endeavours."
Lead singer of 7 Seconds of Love Joel Veitch says: "It's hugely useful to get this settlement from Coca Cola to support our activities as a band - we've been in the studio recording our first EP, and we're looking forward to working with Sincere Management.
'It's also a wonderful feeling to be able to help these charities, both close to my heart, which make such an important contribution to saving babies' lives, and supporting families that suffer the grief of losing a baby."
Jane Brewin, Chief Executive of Tommy's, the baby charity says:
"I am both heartwarmed and incredibly thrilled with this very kind and generous donation to Tommy's from "7 Seconds of Love". Tommy's has worked closely with the band and their website,
www.rathergood.com over
recent months and it's testament to their philanthropic and benevolent attitude that they've chosen us to benefit from their settlement with Coca Cola. I'd like to extend my sincerest thanks to them for thinkingof Tommy's.
"Sadly 1 in 4 families suffer a loss during pregnancy and as Tommy's receives limited government funding, we rely on good natured donations like this to change these figures for the better. Donations to us will
both fund our vital research into miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth - as well as provide much needed support and information to parents and parents-to-be."
