I keep getting them! Your virus protection is out of date, a new update is available for your computer, you need to renew you virus prtection...
I KNOW!!!!!! And i allready renewed the virus protection so i have no IDEA what it's complaining about now, but it won't go away! And MSN is just as bad, it MAKES me log in, as soon as the computer gets started, even if i don't want to go on, it makes the internet take longer to load because of that, and then it won't let me cancel the sign in, it comes up with MSN today, just as i'm about to click on something important, and when i tell it to not log in, it decides to later anyway! Usually just as i'm about to shut the computer down!

Anyway, now that that's over with, i feel much better.

More proof that Microsoft is evil. But unless you are a nine year old little girl and Bill Gates made you cry, Microsoft > Apple.

Linux is better at that stuff, Shame it takes so much effort getting everything right. Next to no virus's and it's up to you when to update since you do it yourself.

On the pop ups balloons, I managed to disable them but can't remember how I did it.

I'm guessing that linux is an OS, yes? Is it compatible with PC games?

Yeah, Linux is an OS. It's completly free and mainly command line based. You can't run games on it, But if you download VMware player and make a Windows VM you can install and play games on that. That's what I do. Though right now I'm directly booted into my Windows partition.

You make it sound a bit labour intensive, but you seem to think that it is worth it.

Apparently McAffee protection came with this computer and it's not leaving.
Anyone know how to delete this completely?

Oh, no, there's no DOS whatsoever on this version of Windows.

Nope, 'cause I picked up some free DOS game & found out I have to have some sort of DOS emulator to play it. No DOS on Windows XP.

No, for real. Trust me. Windows XP does not have DOS. It may be a minor point, but I went through a lot to find that out.

Wow. This thread is getting REALLY technical, and i'm all for the computer talk, no doubt about that, but could you maybe tone it down a little? It's confusing for someone like me, thanku.

The multiplayer doesn't work with an emulator - the best reason to play the original CnCs

And anyway, ever heard of "the original and best"? Because they are :)

Would-if-I-could - my current net security doesn't allow it, but that should change soon when I get myself a second PC specifically for online gaming.

I'll warn you though, even though I've not played in a couple of years, when I did play, I almost never lost - I have a rather notorious and unusual strategy ;)
