I stepped on it funny. I heard a snapping sound. I am walking with a pronounced limp and it hurts to put on my shoes. However I don't want to go to the hospital since A) I'm pretty sure there is nothing you can do about a broken toe and more importantly B) The evil chinese doctors will tell me to rest it and I'm about to start travelling! Just wanted to let you all know.

Oh no! I understand why you don't want to go to the hospital, but don't you think you'll be miserable traveling around in pain?
Hope you feel better soon, though.

Ouch. They will set/plaster a toe if it's a bad break.

I always thought there is not much you can do with a broken toe except wait till it gets better. It's what i did when i broke one of mine a couple of years ago. It got better, but it does still get a bit funny when i've been squating or walked on high heels too much/long. But i doubt you do much walking on high heels.

Anyways.. good luck, hope it's gets better soon. Though it sounds like it's a worse break than i had, so if merman is right.. maybe you should have it checked out.

You could at least have the docs write up some pain meds.

There is actually no need to rest the foot but you might want to keep the toe from being bended by attaching it to the toe beneath.

That sounds like a good idea!

wikihow wrote:
If seeing a doctor is not an option, then you should Buddy Wrap. This involves wrapping gauze around the broken toe and the next biggest toe that's not broken. Place a cotton ball between the toes so they heal straight. Apply medical tape to hold the gauze in place.

When Buddy Wrapping (buddy taping), one MUST place gauze or a cotton ball between the toes being wrapped together to avoid maceration of the skin and infection. Failure to do so may cause severe injury.

Btw.. Buddy wrapping! lolz!

The same happened to me last month. I didn't get it checked and figured it to be a minor sprain (even though it was a bit red, which may be bad considering I'm black =/) and stayed off it for a few days. It got better after a week or so.
