Hey..I didn't know this until my friend had this happen...but Rats are susceptible to Strep Throat just like Humans!! So if you get sick and fear it to be strep throat, be very careful about your rats. Jessica, my friend, lost every one of hers because of it, and she was very upset..
so was I...she had my Guitar rat that Mom didn't want me to keep..

i read a story in the paper about a woman that knew she had aids and purposefully went and slept with loads of guys. that made me really sad to think how they and their families must feel. sorry it's just sadder than a dog that's lost it's smile. I'm just honest.

Yeah, that's like Koala bears and Chlamydia. Though I think rats catching strepthroat is slightly more common and less disturbing.
My rat is thin, lethargic, and has a lump on his side. He's about three, and I've only had him and his mate a few weeks as they were rescued from some nutter who kept them in a shed in the cold and didn't feed them.

cancer. Many rats that were bred from Lab stock have it, because they're ancestors were bred to be used for Cancer research. Poor little Oreo had it too...she gave up and died. I was very sad. As far as I know it is hereditary, but not all rats from a cancer research rat have it, they can carry it though.
My even more favored rat, Blitzkrieg, died afterward Oreo. Couldn't figure out why. I cried..

if he's not..I don't know. Keep him warm and comfy.Oreo also had huge pus pockets under her skin.. mom began checking her and realized the lumps on her were liquidy..you might have a vet check your rat's. I don't know much about the pussy things, Mom and I couldn't find anything on them...but we managed. She lived for a while until I was told to put her in the outside cages..then she left..
I'm no vet..so I can't really say anything bout medicines...ya know, worried parents..you could try the meds we used and they might not work and he'd die and it'd be my fault and blah blah..

but yeah..I'd just pet him often and feed him well..it's all I could do for Oreo, really..
