OK, thought I would start this...

The idea is to post about the films you've been watching in the cinema or at home, the trailers you've seen and the films you are looking forward to.

I have been watching:

SHREK THE THIRD
Fairly disappointing third film, really. Justin Timberlake is quite good as Artie, and there were some funny moments. It was just... not great. 6/10.

'Little Miss Sunshine' which my sister recommended to me. I pass on the recommendation. :)

Recently I've watched Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street and Secretary by my own choice, and been made to watch Superbad and Blades Of Glory.

Sweeney Todd was great. I really love the scene for the song Epiphany. It really shows just how insane Todd is.

Secretary is a love it or hate it film. Though if you're not into or can't understand domination and submission you probably won't like or understand it. And even then the opinions seem pretty mixed. I really enjoyed it though and is great at proving how it's more than a sexual thing.

Superbad, I'll admit I've avoided this film for ages due to it just not sounding like a movie I would enjoy. However after watching it I think I'm in love with McLovin and the two cops. They make such a great trio. :D

Blades Of Glory was a bit meh. It was entertaining, but like 40 Year Old Virgin I doubt I'll even bother to watch it again.

Last night watched Reign of Fire. It was ok. Not something I would watch again. Well, maybe as Christain Bale was topless for a lot of it.

Need to watch Kinsey this week or next for Sex Class extra credit.

A few films I've seen recently (within the past month) are The Orphanage (El Huerfano), Once, and Howl's Moving Castle.

I highly recommend The Orphanage. It was very suspenseful and sufficiently scary, with only a minimum of goriness. There's a lot of blurring the line between fantasy and reality, and the ending was completely unexpected. Also, the cinematography was amazing.

Once is an interesting film. It's the story of an Irish guitarist and a Czech pianist who meet, get to know each other better, record music together, then go their separate ways. The music is good, but the plot is not very exciting.

Howl's Moving Castle is a masterpiece of animation. The art is absolutely breathtaking, and the story itself is excellent. (I watched it with my aunt, and now she wants to know more about anime. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?)

Howl's Moving Castle is brilliant, I loved the fire in it. Even my Mum enjoyed that one.

I suppose it's a good thing as long as she doesn't get her hands on Pom Poko. Racoons stretching their testicles over a moving vehicle is hardly good family friendly entertainment.

Smokin' Aces - meh
Lucky Number Sleven - shit
Aeon Flux - tried to watch it twice and failed - fell asleep both times.
The 13th Warrior - highly recommend.
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch (yeah, I know, I'm a little behind!) Loved them both.

What the hell are you on? Lucky Number Sleven is a great film! I should Kansas City Shuffle you for such blasphemy.

Next on my list is either City Of God or a re-watch of 3.10 To Yuma.

Have you never seen City of God? Watch it as soon as possible. 3.10 to Yuma I thought was OK but a bit silly, I'd like to see the original.
I thought Lucky Number Slevin was Ok but compare it to other McGuigans and it's a bit slack. It has nowhere near the attention to detail of Gangster No.1 or the Acid House and I can't help but feel the big bucks cast kind of had too much influence.

i much preferred layer cake to lucky number slevin. Revolver is quite good if you like that kind of films, too.

Saw Lock Stock recently, really liked Statham there. Am highly awaiting The Bank Job (trailer)
to get a bit more into heist films i saw Played - awful, and Buster - that one's quite nice, i liked Phil Collin's acting.

Saw Cloverfield yesterday, good film, BAD ending. And as to Howl's moving Castle, LOVE that film, but Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are better Studio Ghibli movies. Check them out.

Has anyone seen Run Fatboy, Run? That's opening in the States next month. How does it compare to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, both of which I thought were brilliant.

Saw The Dark Knight last night and one word. Wow. Heath Ledger is the Joker. Everything about his portrayal was perfect. Just as dark as the comics version, but still unique in his mannerisms.

10/10

I've yet to see it, but would you go as far to say it's his finest role?

Without a doubt. Best film I've seen in a LONG time. Just, incredible. Heath IS the Joker, there is no other way to describe it. I pity the next person who takes on that role.

Heath Ledgers finest performance that I've seen of him. He filmed a part for Terry Gilliam's new film "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus"which I'm looking forward too.

The only reason I would pity the next guy to play The Joker on screen would be if the production team act like a bunch of daft cunts and make him imitate Ledger's Joker as much as possible. As long as he does his own thing with the role the next actor should be fine.

Ideally I'd love to see something physically closer to the comics Joker. I guess the next time we see the Joker in a movie will be in a new franchise so maybe follow it to the Jokers skin actually being like that, and not make up. I'd love to see Andrew Koenig play the Joker in a full length film just as he did in Batman: Dead End though.
