There was this website I saw a while back that had like 250 ways to annoy people.
okay here is one of them from google: http://www.dbooth.net/internerd/annoy.cfm
Anyways I was thinking of like what if there was a list like that for people that are being a Dungeon Master or a Game Master for that matter.
heres a few I came up with so far:
1.when the characters got to a moderately high level say they encounter like an orc. just like one first level orc.
2. instead of treasure being gold pieces all the time say they have found electrum pieces instead which is like equal to half a gold piece.
3. this is one I used to do is give the party a protection from cantrips spell scroll all the time. which is probably one of the most useless spells. It would probably be used if you had a campaign in a wizardry school and you were roleplaying and stuff. It wouldnt be much good in a dungeon or a battle tho.

this story is going to be a bit rubbish cos it happened in a previous life and there was alcohols involved at the time so i can't remember the details..

But... if you're a D&D player you should get the gist of it...

So... me and some other people gathered to play a new game, we went through the whole rolling the dices and doing the maths to get the best possible race, class and alignment... etc... etc... And about.. 2 hours later we're all set to play and the DM decides the first enemy we run into is some ridiculous monster... (can't remember what it was called though.. think chaotic evil dragon.. that kinda calibre) and so were all dead after one roll. Nice one.

Your supposed to challenge the players not overwhelm them. A dragon is too high level for first level charactors.

Then of course there's revealing their employer is the real bad guy. Classic!

Roll notice checks for them when there's nothing there.

It was a Tarrasque! Hooray for my brain still working! (albeit a bit slow... mind you.. this happened over 10 years ago!)

That sounds more like a Scooby doo plot to me :D

No really, this happens a lot. Like he has you steal back "what some other guy stole from him", but really he's making you steal the queens personal seal which jsut so happens to be in that treasure box. So in order to not get executed you're made to steal it again from your former employer.

Otot makes a saving throw against intelligence... and misses.

Sorry Otot, your plot makes no sense ;)

Yes, it does.
So that count hires us "that other count stole my seal!" to steal the seal "back"
we steal it, give him the seal and get caught, he escapes.
we get te chance to save our lives by stealing the seal (turns out it's the queens personal seal) back again. (the other count was ordered to guard the seal)

On the chase after the now revealed real bad guy we get into lots of trouble, because he used the queen's seal for ridiculous tax raises, so everyone's revolting.

The sad thing is: Many written adventures have this "surprising" twist of "you have been tricked into helping the bad guy" in them.

A friend and myself have been throwing some D&D ideas around recently since we want to try and get back into it. I had the idea of when we go to a village just to stop of and rest that it could really be a whole side quest were the whole townsfolk are mimics feeding of the mental references in a powerful psychic mind force. That, and my insistence on introducing strange half breeds, such as Gnolfs (Gnome/Elf) have unfortunately guarantied I'll never DM any group with her. :P

@ otot & merman: i never had that plot pulled on me during a live game. The Baldur's gate pc game tried it several times, but i saw through it. Partly because of how the character approached my party, partly cos of the options of answers given to me by the game. (though i imagine having to come up with your own reply instead of several options would make it harder to see through it).

@ onio.. you need to lay off the weed.. :P

Lol, I've actually cut down a fair bit (though still having the cheeky smoke :P) the last few months. That mimic thing was pretty much me taking the idea of the Lich King and the Scourge from Warcraft and converting it into utter sillyness. The cross breeding I have no excuses for, I just find half breeds amazing in fantasy. :P

One of my favourite D&D plots/modules is "Curse of the Azure Bonds". A party are ambushed on the road, and wake up in an inn with strange blue tatoos on their arms. When they leave the inn and search the town, they come across the king in a carriage... the tatoos glow and compel them to attack the king! It turns out an alliance of bad guys has got together and uses the tatoos to control adventurers to do their bidding. So it's up to the party to track down the five bad guys and remove the tatoos by killing them.

Have anyone heard of Grimtooth's Trap's. Anyways its from a general roleplaying company and they have all these ideas for traps that totally screw your charactors over. Unfortuneately I can't think of any examples since it's been so long
couldnt find much of a websight for it..
