I'm out of the country from December onwards. Would be silly to organise something I can't also attend.

Plus you folks need plenty of warning in advance, you disorganised lot.

Anyone fancy joining me and a 100-something others in the No Trousers Tube Ride in January?

I would if i didn't think I would mentally scar all concerned!

I have just had one of the most awkward evenings of my life. And it involved a lot of knitting. Living the dream here.

Ooh, knitting, eh? How can knitting be awkward?!
And Autumn/Katie says she's joining in too, so come down! :D

Good luck! Good luck! Good luck! See you when you're conscious again.

It wasn't so much the knitting (although the looped stitch I was being taught was horrific) as the company... I visited awkward city and did not enjoy the architecture so I was trying to knit my way out of the situation! Needless to say it went badly :?

I will see how the funds/work placement/uni work are nearer the time and let you know :)

Honest to God, NEVER work for Subway. Ever. If the choices in front of you are losing a limb or working for that shower of c**ts, hop everywhere for the rest of your life. It'd be easier.

In the interests of full disclosure for the benefit of anyone seeking employment, indeed.
I started there about a month ago. Got the job about one third of the way through the interview (I do interview well, it's getting to that point I'm hit and miss with) with the manager, who himself had the week previously been a shift manager at MacDonalds. My first shift was smack-bang in the middle of a saturday lunchtime rush, he bunged me on the till with my number........and that was my training. Telling me a three-digit number.
As the weeks went on, it became apparent that he was as lazy as he was inept. Having him on a shift was worse than him not being there, and the staff hated him. The second saturday after I started (the day after the carnival - it's the one in Bridgwater) he left three of us on the whole afternoon, which was understaffing on a good day and therefore nothing got done besides serving people. He then decided to leave me on my own from four onwards, only not tell anyone so have us thinking someone was coming in til we rang said person who informed the manager had given him the day off!
I'll summarise the rest thus:
That evening I, with the blessing of the woman in the next morning, left having not done a few key tasks and some prep. For this I got called in for a 'chat' because we're not supposed to leave til everything's done, I pointed out that I was left completely in the lurch and would've been there til midnight, and had no training on the cutting machines, plus my colleague had been fine with me leaving stuff and I had a small boy very poorly at home. Turns out she wasn't that fine.

We had a huge fly problem that people complained about, largely down to the Insectocutors not working - the area manager told me she wasn't going to phone Rentokil because they'd want to replace the Insectocutors (!) when the problem was drain flies. Drain flies I'd had to pick out of the chicken on a regular basis. I stopped eating from there then.

I got questioned over the potential theft of a cookie, despite everyone else eating whatever they wanted for free, manager included.

If we couldn't have a break, we didn't get paid for it, even though I pointed out we were entitled to a 'compensatory' break within a reasonable time period if we couldn't take them, and more to the point it was impossible to take a break if you were mentally busy, understaffed and then left on your own. Apparently we have to be more assertive about taking them. So far, that meant I'd essentially worked about eight hours for free at the place.

Until I politely pointed out it was against the law to not pay someone for work undertaken, if you had to work outside of your rota hours, regardless of why, you didn't get paid.

If I didn't clean the toilets, it wouldn't get done.

The manager took about ten shits a day, never washed his hands.

So, it came to a head last week. I was called in and sacked. For 'not following management instructions', that even the manager couldn't explain, 'not completing paperwork as trained' - aside from the obvious point of not having been trained, this related to forgetting to chart the temperatures once. Which, considering how often the figures were falsified, was barely worth doing anyway, 'not completing cleaning to company standards' , which I covered above, and 'poor attitude to fellow members of staff' - apparently, and I can guess who, someone basically said they refused to work with me and either they sacked me or they left. He also tried to say that customers complained about my 'attitude', which he then recanted when I pointed out the only complaint they could possibly have is me being too chatty, and that the most common thing said to me was how nice it was to see a smiling face in there while throwing daggers at whoever was on with me.

But it's cool, I left on a high. When he said I could either leave immediately or work my weeks notice to you know, 'help them out', I said that they could go fuck themselves and threw my uniform in his face, my parting comment being 'good luck, this place clearly has more faces than a fucking diamond factory', which I thought was quite quick of me given the circumstance.

/Rant..........lol.

Why is American football more popular here in America than baseball or basketball? When I watch American football I see: Ball goes 20 yards, pause, everyone lines up, ball goes 30 yards, pause, line up, ball goes two feet, pause, line up... I was born and raised here in America, but for the life of me I can't understand why this sport is so popular.

I feel your pain. I watched a few games last year, and could never grasp what made the sport potentially entertaining to watch or play..

Yesterday was The Ohio State University Buckeyes Vs. the University of Michigan Wolverines (basically the biggest sports rivalry in America) and I was torn between rooting for the Buckeyes and falling asleep. Now it's the Browns Vs the Bengals, but at least now i have my laptop in front of me so i don't have to watch the game.

Went in Wednesday, got home Friday evening... still pretty sore. The bad news is that I'm looking at more surgery in the New Year. But not feeling too bad.

Sorry to hear that Merman. I've been doing my best to avoid hospitals so feel for you when you haven't really got the choice. Will be in contact soon.
