I think there's enough interest to warrant this thread. I would like to include pop art, if no one objects. Anything you see that makes you think or feel, post, or discuss it here.

That's really interesting, it reminds me of someone, vaguely. But I can't think who, as the subject matter isn't what reminds me, just bits of the style.

Here's my favourite painting by my favourite artist:
Image
"The First Days of Spring" by Salvador Dali (1929)

I got to see the original piece at the Dali museum in St. Petersburg, Florida during the centennial celebration of his birth in 2004.
Shame I couldn't find a larger image to do it justice.
I was surprised to learn at the museum that this is also a collage piece.
The tiny baby picture in the centre is actually Dali's own photo of himself.
The mosaic piece to the lower right and the picture behind the couple in the lower left are also collaged, as well as the "doll face" and the deer.

Haha, I was going to post a couple of Dalis when I get home. My personal fave is 'Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bumblebee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening'.

^ Ha what, the man was great. Why not, I'd love to see more of him here & that's a good one, too. Although my favourite period of his was late 1920s-1930s.
Here's my second favourite, which is at the MOMA in NYC. Unfortunately, I have yet to visit there.
"Illumined Pleasures" also from 1929
Image
In it you also see a version of the handled "woman vessel," which showed up in subsequent paintings. Dali worked using imagery from his own experience & psyche and many images are recurring themes throughout his life's work; another example being the lion's head, symbolising desire.
His style is what first draws me to him, though. Just something about it that srikes a similar aesthetic.
In this one I also really like the way he scratched the blue field/sky in the box to bring it out of its frame.

I know you know. I meant I don't think it's odd at all more people would plan to post him. 8)

oic. Thought I'd offended you then for some reason.

You saw any clips from that Disney cartoon he worked on? I found a couple clips from it a while ago. Looks amazing. (cartoons count as fine arts, right?). Anyway here's some linkage for anyone interested.

yeah I was amazed to see that last time you posted it - I'd love to see more. What a combination - Disney and Dali! powerful or what? I can't believe only 7mins or whatever were made coz they' thought it would not be very popular!

Yeah I've seen that very same NPR story before this forum started.

Cartoons, comics, they're all artists, no?
Something on-topic from my 12 March Sunday funny pages:
Image

Funny how my paper edited out the head-banging panel, but then papers often chop comics for size.
Oddly enough there was a second on-topic comic in the same paper, Funky Winkerbean, which for some reason is not online at the moment.

HAHA discussing Sarah Lucas is what inspired this thread, and looking just now at the "Pickles" comic strip I think I see where the old guy gets his idea:
Image
"Au Naturel" (1994), one of her most famous pieces.

Hm, so maybe not so much interest.
So to pop it up a little, here's an article I just got in an art newsletter about celebrity artists. That Peter Falk one is impressive!

& here's one I had up as the desktop for a while:

WHAT??!
Why the hell does Google have Joan Miro style today?

{EDIT} Oh, I see. 20 April was his birthday.
Well, that's pretty cool of Google, actually.

Here's some random pic off the web I considered a bit artful:
